Today Pastor Brink starts a new series for the season. It’s called “Pictures of His Coming.” God made many promises to his Old Testament people about “A Coming King,” but they were hard to understand. So God gave them pictures. Word pictures. Each week of Advent, we will examine one of these pictures from our family album, noting how each finds its fulfillment in Christ. We start today with the odd picture of a “A Shoot Sprouting from a Stump.”

Bible Verse: Isaiah 11:1-10

This morning our Bible Adventure comes from the book of Jonah, which is presented by the GEMS drama team. Jonah (played by Janna) runs away from God when he is sent to bring the message of salvation to a wicked people. Pastor Dan then contrasts the Jonah story with Isaiah 6:8, where God asks “Whom shall I send?” and Isaiah responds with “Here Am I! Send Me” The question for us all is how we will respond to God’s call to bring the message of salvation to a lost and broken world.

Message: Isaiah 6:8

Every year we have a Summer Family Nights theme and logo. This year you’ll notice the big boast in the Worship Center. That’s because our theme is “Splash:God Will Make a Way!” All the stories are about water – storms, floods, & danger. The world is like that; it can be a scary place. But our kids are learning that we we don’t need to be afraid – because God is with us. Pastor Brink has also been teaching on this theme each Sunday.

Message Isaiah 43:1-5a

Isaiah 43:1-5

Israel’s Only Savior

43 But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2   When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3   For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush and Seba in your stead.
4   Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life.
5  Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.
