Today Pastor Brink returns to our studies on the Elijah stories. Today’s story is about good and evil. A rich, powerful, wicked King named Ahab abuses his power to rob, kill, and destroy a faithful Israelite named Naboth. Can you guess whose side God is on?  In this story we learn again that God is not only a merciful Savior, but also a just Judge. He is the King of kings, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. We do well to be repentant and ready.

Bible reading: I Kings 21:1-26

Today we find our hero, Elijah, not looking too heroic.  He’s discouraged. Overwhelming by life.  Ready to quit.  Have you ever felt that way?  Fortunately, God met Elijah in his despair, and he’ll do the same for you.

Bible Reading: I Kings 19:1-18

Today we continue our studies on Elijah, a prophet who represented God at a time when most people were wandering away from Him. In today’s story, we see signs of God’s favor. But the blessings don’t come down until the prayers go up. Could that possibly be true in our lives too? Today we will talk about the importance of persistent prayer.

Bible Reading: I Kings 18:41-46, James 5:16b-18

Today we resume our studies on Elijah, a prophet who bravely represented God in an age of unbelief. But today’s message is based on a strange and disturbing part of the story. We will be examining the theme of judgment. God hates sin!  Did you know that? And one day God will rid the world of sin and of sinners. That same theme echoes throughout the New Testament, and curiously, even in the sermon Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, which ends not only with an invitation, but also with “pleading” and with “many words of warning.”

Bible Reading: Acts 2:36-41, I Kings 18:36-40

Today we continue our studies on Elijah.  And today’s story is no doubt the most famous of all the Elijah stories.  It’s incredible drama, with a lesson just as fresh and timely today as it was 2,850 years ago.  The message from Elijah and from God today is this:

“Get Off the Fence!”

Don’t think you can play with God – saying you love him, but living like the world (or like the devil)!  What God wants from us is a whole-hearted commitment to love the Lord or God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  May God give us grace today to understand and obey.

Bible Reading:  I Kings 18:16-39

Today Pastor Brink continues our studies on Elijah. He was a godly man who lived about 2,850 years ago, and yet his story still speaks powerfully to us today. Today’s message is entitled

“The Call to Holy Boldness”

We will mainly focus today on a man named Obadiah, who (like Elijah) was given a very difficult task – to stand up for God amidst a desperately wicked culture. He was initially terrified to “go public” for God, because it could quite possibly cost him his life. But he obeyed; he fulfilled his calling. And we’re still talking about him almost 3,000 years later. May we too be strong enough in our faith to stand up boldly for God today!

Message: I Kings 18:1-19

Today Pastor Brink continues our studies on the life of an Old Testament prophet named Elijah.  He was called by God to a difficult task – to stand up for God in a desperately wicked culture.  Does that sound familiar?  The series is entitled

“My God is Yahweh!”
Representing God in an Age of Unbelief

Today’s story is filled with danger, irony, warnings, and assurances.  Among the reassuring truths are these: God knows what’s going on, he knows what you’re going through, and his mercies are new every morning.  He is willing and able to take care of you, through obedience is usually required.

Bible Reading:  I Kings 17

Today Pastor Brink will begin a series of messages on the life of an Old Testament prophet named Elijah, who was called by God to a very difficult task.  He was called to stand up for God in a desperately wicked culture.  The series is entitled

“My God is Yahweh!”

Representing God in an Age of Unbelief

The last line should probably ring some bells for us and whet our appetites for this study.  We too line in an age of unbelief; we too are called to stand up and speak up for the Living God.  Not only is this God’s desire, our obedience is what our neighbors need!

Message: I Kings 16:29-17:1
