Today’s story is about one of Jesus’ last appearances to his disciples before ascending into heaven from the Mount of Olives. In this story, it is apparent that Jesus wants his disciples – and us – to have a very clear understanding of God’s plan and our mission.

Today Pastor Brink continues our summer series, Meet Me at the Mountain. Today’s lesson will not be about a mountain per se, but about “mountaintop experiences” – times when God has been so close that “our hearts burned within us.” How should we understand these experiences? And how can we keep vibrant faith alive in our hearts and lives even when we are enmeshed in the daily grind of our normal routine?

Bible Reading: Luke 24:13-35

Today we join Jesus on a mountainside where thousands of hungry people gathered. The story begins by noting Jesus’ compassion for immense human need; and out of Jesus’ compassionate heart flowed a miracle. I’m not going to make it!” Then fear & despair set in. But the good news God wants you to hear is this: He is with us!

Bible Reading: Mark 6:45–53

Last week we met God at Mt. Sinai, the “Mountain of the Law.” This week we meet God at Mt. Moriah, the “Mountain of Grace.” But be forewarned: your first reaction would not likely be to call this a story of grace. More like a horror story! But stick with it. It’s deep! Listen carefully, pray, keep your Bible handy, and you will learn some amazing things about the plan of God that just might melt your heart to tears.
