This morning Pastor Brink begins a sermon series on our summer theme, “Meet Me at the Mountain.” There were lots of mountains in the lands where the Bible stories took place, and this summer we will study some of the “mountain-top experiences” had by ancient saints. We start today at Mt. Sinai, where God made Israel his chosen people and where he gave them The Law. It was a scary, scary place; but it’s a place we must visit too. Because it fuels our search for a Savior and leads us to Jesus.

Bible Reading: Exodus 19:16-20a, 20:1-17, and 20:18-19

Today Pastor Brink will present the last message in our Elijah series. Today’s message is not just about the end of Elijah’s ministry, it’s a picture of God’s desire and plan to continue Elijah’s prophetic ministry. Times have changed, but our calling today is similar to that of Elijah: Representing God in an Age of Unbelief. We are the heirs and successors of Elijah. And the effectiveness of this series should be measured not just in how much better we understand the Bible, but also in how much more willing we are to stand up and speak up for God in an age of unbelief and disobedience.

Bible Reading: II Kings 2:1-15

Today Pastor Brink returns to our studies on the Elijah stories. Today’s story is about good and evil. A rich, powerful, wicked King named Ahab abuses his power to rob, kill, and destroy a faithful Israelite named Naboth. Can you guess whose side God is on?  In this story we learn again that God is not only a merciful Savior, but also a just Judge. He is the King of kings, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. We do well to be repentant and ready.
