Today we find our hero, Elijah, not looking too heroic.  He’s discouraged. Overwhelming by life.  Ready to quit.  Have you ever felt that way?  Fortunately, God met Elijah in his despair, and he’ll do the same for you.

Bible Reading: I Kings 19:1-18

Today we continue our studies on Elijah, a prophet who represented God at a time when most people were wandering away from Him. In today’s story, we see signs of God’s favor. But the blessings don’t come down until the prayers go up. Could that possibly be true in our lives too? Today we will talk about the importance of persistent prayer.

Bible Reading: I Kings 18:41-46, James 5:16b-18

Today we resume our studies on Elijah, a prophet who bravely represented God in an age of unbelief. But today’s message is based on a strange and disturbing part of the story. We will be examining the theme of judgment. God hates sin!  Did you know that? And one day God will rid the world of sin and of sinners. That same theme echoes throughout the New Testament, and curiously, even in the sermon Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost, which ends not only with an invitation, but also with “pleading” and with “many words of warning.”

Bible Reading: Acts 2:36-41, I Kings 18:36-40

What many people in today’s world long for is to be noticed – for people around us to stop and really look, listen, and show that they care or even know that we’re there.  Today Pastor Bonny will be preaching about Jesus and how he took the time to notice those who felt “un-noticed” – specifically a woman who had been suffering for more than a decade.  She wanted to remain anonymous, but Jesus searched until he found her and blessed her.  Jesus notices you today and offers you his life-giving touch.  After encountering Jesus, we can give notice to others in his name and invite them into the loving family of God.

Bible Reading: Mark 5:24b-34

Today we continue our studies on Elijah.  And today’s story is no doubt the most famous of all the Elijah stories.  It’s incredible drama, with a lesson just as fresh and timely today as it was 2,850 years ago.  The message from Elijah and from God today is this:

“Get Off the Fence!”

Don’t think you can play with God – saying you love him, but living like the world (or like the devil)!  What God wants from us is a whole-hearted commitment to love the Lord or God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  May God give us grace today to understand and obey.
